What is that Light? |
 |
The
2009 Ferrara Pumper delivered to the Milton Fire District in
Ulster County, New York has a fairly unique feature.
Attached to the front fascia of the cab is a Roto-Ray
featuring three LED lights that spin at 200 RPM delivering
an attention grabbing light pattern to all traffic in its
path. This style light appears to
have been patented in 1927 and may have been one of the first
mechanical warning lights introduced according to some sources.
While the lights have seen extreme popularity in the Maryland
and Virginia area over the past few decades, they have been
scarce in the tradition-based Northeast. According to Garrison
Fire Sales Manager Blake Garrison “this is only the second Roto-Ray
light I recall being delivered through our dealership and it is
already catching some attention”. The previous unit was
delivered to Bruen Rescue Squad in November of 2001. |
|
|
This Roto-Ray is one of the
hundreds of available lighting options offered on Ferrara Fire
Apparatus units. |
